Tour diary: ROOT! supports The DC3. Friday February 3^rd, Regal Ballroom, Melbourne:

Arrived at soundcheck. Thought: ‘Is this the best support act we could get?’ Watched me move all my stuff around the stage so I’ll never remember where I put it. And I sounded like shit.

Went up to me and said ‘thanks for the gig’, whilst secretly thinking ‘I should have headlined’ and sneering at my ungroovy pants.

Went out to dinner, leaving myself to the depressing doors open crowd. Couldn’t be assed getting back in time to watch me. Had some platitudes ready for when I came offstage, but.

Got the feeling I hadn’t seen a single note of my performance. Thought: ‘fuck you, asshole. I’m gonna drink your rider’.

Not only did I play over time, but I took ages to get my shit off and clear the stage for me, then when I was trying to get ready and feeling that rising sense of discomforture, I hung around the bandroom after all my bandmates had gone home, engaging me in pissed, slightly provocative conversation about things like: ‘does becoming precede being?’ when really all I wanted to do was have a crap and talk to no-one.

My set was shit. I told you I should have headlined.

I came on to my wife in an act of revenge.

Watched Henri pick a fight with himself. Then later, was seen going home in the same car.

Doug was really nice to himself all night. Fuck I hate that.
